The ancient Far Eastern art of bonsai took over Weston Park on a wet weekend in May as the South Yorkshire Bonsai Society (SYBS) unveiled its highly anticipated annual public exhibition at the Weston Park May Fayre.
The green expanses of the park, usually populated by local dog walkers and students, were transformed into an open-air gallery of miniature natural wonders. Hundreds of visitors dropped by the the society’s marquee to marvel at of meticulously styled, living sculptures
The society’s showcase wasn’t just about showing off finished masterpieces; it was designed to be highly educational. Members were on hand throughout the day to demystify the art form, explaining the vital roles of specialized pruning, structural wiring, feeding and watering regimes
